Find consulting firms by practice, size, and client sector

Consulting firms do not fit firmographic boxes. The one thing you want to filter on, the practice they run, is written in prose on their website, not stored as a field.

try

Firmographic records carry an industry code, not a practice area. A boutique advising banks on regulation and a firm doing digital transformation for retailers look the same there: same code, same headcount band, same city. The difference is written on their site in sentences.

So the qualifier is a research column, not a filter. It searches the web for each firm, Serper first and Exa as the fallback, then reads the practice pages and case studies. It writes back a short answer with its sources. Blitz API and Serper's maps search supply the firms, and Blitz API leads the contact chain for people with a LinkedIn profile.

The result is a row you can argue with. Every research cell keeps the pages its answer cites. When a colleague asks why a firm was filed under operations rather than strategy, the answer is one click away.

Example searches

Ask for it the way you'd say it

Each example is a request in plain words, with what it returns underneath.

  • Practice read off the site

consultancies whose site describes a finance transformation or cfo advisory practice

The answer is written to the row with the pages it came from, so a wrong call is correctable without re-sourcing the list.

  • Sector their clients sit in

advisory firms whose case studies are mostly healthcare and life sciences clients

Client sector is inferred from published work rather than the firm's own industry code, which is far too broad to filter on.

  • Partner-led boutiques

independent consulting firms between 10 and 80 people with named partners on the site

A research column checks the site for named partners. A people search filtered to partner titles adds each one as a row linked to the firm, not a generic contact.

Plays

Three motions you can run this week

Each one is a chain of OXYGEN primitives: the same hosted objects your workspace already has, composed.

  • Practice read from the website

Every firm carries a structured practice label with the pages that produced it.

    1. 1Source firms by region and size, then dedupe on domain before any paid column runs.
    2. 2Add a grounded research column, then promote firms matching your definition to Records.

  • Partner-level outreach

The message reaches a named partner in the relevant practice, not a general enquiries address.

    1. 1Run the people search over the firms table. It adds one row per person, linked back to their firm. Filter to partner titles in the practice you sell into.
    2. 2Run the email waterfall, which tries providers in order until one finds a verified address. Enroll the people table, and read every reply in one inbox.

  • Rank before you spend

The expensive columns only ever run on firms that already passed a free check.

    1. 1Score rows on what sourcing already returned: size, region, and whether the listing names a website, all free formula checks.
    2. 2Run the research and email columns with a row filter on that score, then promote the firms that pass to Records.

Who you can reach

Roles you can find at consulting and advisory firms

Reachability is per channel: a role marked for mobile is one the phone waterfall usually resolves, not a guarantee for every record.

Filters you can search on

  • Practice areas described on the site
  • Client sectors named in case studies
  • Partner and headcount bands
  • Independent or network member
  • Country, region, or city
  • Publishes research or a report series
  • Offers implementation as well as advice

Firms that publish case studies and name their partners resolve very well, because the research column has something to read. Boutiques with a one-page site and no published work are the weak slice. The firm resolves, but its practice cell comes back thin and needs a human read. At the smallest firms, partner names are easier to find than their emails.

Data sources

Data sources and CRM connections

  • Serper

Firm listings from Google Maps with address, phone, and site, plus the web search that grounds the research column by default.

  • People Data Labs

Headcount, founding year, and partner-level people at a firm, run when you pick it by name rather than by default.

  • Exa

The semantic search lane behind Serper in the research column. The pages its answer cites stay on the cell as sources.

  • Blitz API

Supplies firms by size and region and finds the people at each firm from its LinkedIn page. It also leads the work-email chain on rows with a LinkedIn profile, billing only on a hit.

  • LeadMagic

A later lane in the work-email chain and the second mobile lane behind Blitz API, billed only when it returns a result.

Use managed credits where available, or connect a supported provider key on an eligible paid plan. Your provider bills its calls; OXYGEN adds a per-call platform fee. Signed-in CRM connections such as HubSpot have no per-call fee. Connected sending accounts reserve monthly credits. See pricing and supported integrations.

Limits

Where this stops

  • A research column reads what is published. A firm doing most of its work under NDA looks smaller and narrower than it is. Treat a thin practice cell as missing evidence, not a disqualification.

FAQ

Questions people ask first

Why can't I just filter consulting firms by industry code?
The code says consulting and stops. It cannot separate a regulatory advisory boutique from an operations implementation shop, and those two buy very different software.
How accurate is a website-derived practice label?
Good enough to rank on, not good enough to send blind. Every answer keeps the pages it cites, so a reviewer checks a sample in minutes and adjusts the prompt before the list goes out.
Can I find individual partners rather than the firm?
Yes. Run the people search over your firms table. It reads each firm's LinkedIn page and adds one row per person, linked back to the firm. The email chain then runs per person. Filter to the practice you sell into, so a privacy partner is not pitched procurement software.
How do I avoid paying to enrich firms I will reject?
Order the columns so the free checks run first. Size, region, and whether the listing names a website are free formula reads once the rows exist. Then send the firms that pass to a table of their own and run the people search and email waterfall there.
Do networks and member firms count as one company?
Treat them as separate rows unless you sell centrally. Member firms usually buy their own tools, so dedupe on domain, keep the network name as a column, and decide per campaign which level you address.
Can I reuse this list for a partnership motion later?
Yes. The table stays in the workspace. Months later you can force a re-run of the contact column and enroll the same people in another sequence. The cells' recent history then shows which contacts changed.
